The Fisher Friend Mobile Application (FFMA) is an app run by the M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) and not any government sources. MSSRF is not a government entity and is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by any government agency. All the information available on the app is sourced from publicly available information including data provided by Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS). We solely publish publicly available data sourced from official records, reports, and other open sources.

While we strive for accuracy, we do not claim to represent the government, provide official statements, or guarantee the completeness or timeliness of the information shared. For authoritative details, please refer to government websites or official communications

The FFMA is an Android application designed to provide all relevant information related to fishing. FFMA is a pioneering to address knowledge requirements to act as a catalytic and real-time decision making support system for small scale fishers. The app provides dynamic information that addresses the shore-to-shore knowledge requirements of fishers enables to undertake “informed decision and informed fishing”.

The development and scaling up of FFMA is being executed by MSSRF in partnership with Qualcomm.

The data provided is sourced from Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS). INCOIS publishes crucial scientific information to the fishers online and serves as FFMA’s Knowledge Partner. FFMA does not represent the government or any government entity and only displays information provided by them on this application.

We have also made available benevolent schemes and entitlements that fishers can apply to with their respective State Fisheries Departments of India. FFMA also provided unofficial translations for some of these schemes. FFMA does not play any role in the deployment of these schemes and has only displayed this for the benefit of the fishers. FFMA does not represent the government or any government entity

A multilingual app has been developed in the regional languages of coastal India such as Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Odiya, Bangla, Kannada, Marathi and Gujarati apart from the common English version.

Features of FFMA

GPS for navigating directly to the Potential Fishing Zone (PFZ)

Ocean State forecast information such as wave height, wind speed and direction

Facility of saving and offline viewing of PFZ

Mark danger zones in the Sea such as sunken boat, rock bodies, coral reefs etc.

Disaster alerts such as cyclone, tsunami and high waves

International Border Line (IBL) alert with the Sri Lanka – obtained from publicly available information

Compass Facility

SOS (Save our Soul) button for rescue when in critical situation in sea

Navigating Harbour locations when they are in emergency

Information about Government schemes and Daily News of the District

My Tracker (Tracking fishing route)

Calling facility with crucial contact details

User of this application will be monitored for the access, page views and regularity for internal purposes of MSSRF. However, no data of its use by the user will be disclosed to anyone without proper explanation and consent. Users are encouraged to promote the application to their known contacts who have interest and real use of it.

No user or promoter of this application will claim its ownership or authorship or patent of any sort and will be liable for legal action if it is done so. Similarly, this application is allowed to be downloaded at free of cost for all the interested users and no person shall charge fee for this. Anyone doing so may be reported to the following e-mail immediately besides contacting the same id for providing suggestions and clarifying their queries on the application.
