The majority of high-energy craniomaxillofacial traumatic or oncologic defects are composite, involving the skin, skeleton, and mucosa. Successful reconstruction restores facial projection and lays the foundation for functional rehabilitation. Human facial transplantation has become a reality and holds tremendous promise for severely disfiguring craniomaxillofacial deformities.
