Swimming points explained: FINA (now officially World Aquatics) assigns a numeric score to every swim time using a cubic formula based on the current world record for that event. A score of 1000 points equals the world record. Most competitive swimmers target 600–900 points. Many national and international meets — including Olympic qualification — use World Aquatics points as the entry standard.
