King James Bible is still preferred by hundreds of thousands of people in the English-speaking world. It was born entangled in the politics and theology inherent in the religious discourse of the early 17th century in England. It provoked debate and controversy, not only because of its role as the 'official Bible' for reading in the church but also because of its role in local and national life in England, Scotland and Ireland and, later, at the international level.

Today it is still surrounded by controversy, above all because of the textual basis of translation, its close link with tradition, and its historical role in the global dissemination of a Christian culture and the English language. It was, and still is, more than a Bible. Sociologist Peter Berger would have called it a 'sacred canopy', hanging over politics, society, law, literature, language and culture.

Bible New Testament

The Greek New Testament of the Complutense Polyglot Bible, prepared in Alcalá, Spain, was printed in 1514, but was not published until 1522. Desiderius Erasmus, the Dutch humanist, published his Greek New Testament, along with his new Latin translation, the Novum Instrumentum.

in 1516 in Basel. His Greek NT was based on two 12th-century manuscripts compared to other documents and an inferior manuscript from Revelation, all from the 12th century.
